I wouldn&#039;t characterize SP 2010 as non-starter. I have no doubt that (as you predict) many will attempt ECM projects with it this year and next(2011). Backlash to the problematic attempts though may not see a retreat to the old guard but rather a push to the new (cloud). This leads to 2012 being the year of the cloud where content mgmt is concerned.

Great post (as always)...

I wonder, however, if SharePoint 2010 will be such a non-starter in the BC (Before Cloud) era: I had a conversation with yet another Fortune 500 organization deciding to go 2010 for their primary ECM system. This one&#039;s a global manufacturer, so they have plenty of niche systems to manage engineering drawings as well as big ERP, of course, but for what&#039;s left over of ECM, 2010 will be it.

Jury&#039;s still out on whether once they live with 2010 for a while they don&#039;t decide to back end it with a grown up ECM system, but it&#039;ll be interesting to see if this approach becomes a trend in the market.
